Colonized by immigrants from the province of Trento, Italy, as from 1875, Nova Trento worships traditions, habits and the religious and entrepreneuring spirit of its ancestors. Cozy, joyful and tourist-friendly, Nova Trento is a little piece of Italy among the valleys and hills of Santa Catarina, only 80 Km far from Florianópolis.

The region was also blessed by God with wonderful natural beauties. The enchantment begins around the roads that take you to the town. The successive curves and exuberant vegetation invites visitors to slow down to enjoy the scenery. Tracks take the more adventurous to water falls and creeks. Nova Trento offers many surprises for tourists searching for adventure and beautiful landscapes.

The most exciting of the natural sites of the town is the 525 meter-high Morro da Cruz (Cross Hill) that offers a panoramic view encompassing the whole Tijucas valley and, on clear days, may allow a view of the sea. Everyone gets impressed. Presently, one of the most important attraction of the town is related to religious tourism. The main site visited is the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes where the Museum of the recently-canonized Saint Paulina is located.
